Filoti, on
the lower slopes of Mount Zas, has become a busy village in recent
years.

In the past its inhabitants, like so many other Naxiots, followed
the
trail of emigration, but some have now returned to settle permanently
in the village, restoring the old houses, building new ones.
The Venetian mansion which stands near the centre of the village
reminds us that Filoti was the tief of the Barozzis in the Frankish
period. The village church, Panayia Filotissa, is one of the island's
finest, with a marble screen and a carved bell-tower dating from
1801.
When
you enter the village you quickly pass the village centre with its
terraces where you can enjoy your drink and relax.
